The everyday problem
A style-level total can hide the fact that the requested size or colour is unavailable. Garment businesses need descriptions and variant records that make the sellable combination clear at purchase entry, lookup and checkout.
A workable process
Select one style with several actual combinations and demonstrate the supported variant workflow. Check how staff identify the combination, print its label and review its stock. Avoid creating multiple naming conventions for the same style across separate deliveries.
A practical example
A shirt style may have ten units in total but none in blue medium. Promising availability from the total alone disappoints the customer. Check the exact combination before confirming the sale or taking an order for collection.
Before you finish
Compare the physical label, search result and variant-level quantity. When a new size or colour arrives, extend the established convention rather than creating a vaguely named item that staff cannot distinguish later.
Try this check with your team
Take one style in two colours and three sizes. Ask the salesperson to find the quantity of one exact combination, then follow a sale of that variant and review a size-wise bill. Check that another size did not change.
What the result tells you
This tests whether stock can answer the question the customer actually asks. If only the style total is useful, review variant setup and staff selection habits before importing the complete season’s assortment.
