The everyday problem
The first customer should not become the test for your printer, company selection or item lookup. A short opening routine helps the cashier identify problems while there is still time to resolve them. Keep the checklist next to the counter and assign a person to complete it.
A workable process
Confirm the company and working date, sign in with the assigned user and check the printer connection. Look up a known item and review the selected billing mode. Use an approved training or test procedure for print checks so a printer test does not become an unexplained live sale.
A practical example
If yesterday's cashier used a different company or printer, the screen may look familiar while the destination is wrong. Reading the company name and device selection takes less time than correcting a stack of receipts after customers have left.
Before you finish
Record the opening check, any issue and the person notified. Do not treat a successful login as proof that every connected device or service is ready.
Try this check with your team
Have the next cashier perform the routine without help: identify the company, sign in, look up a familiar item and check the assigned printer. Ask where a saved bill would be found if printing failed. Use a safe test procedure for output.
What the result tells you
A routine is ready when the staff member can repeat it and knows who to contact for a failed check. Keep unresolved device or connection issues visible at handover instead of assuming the first successful login means the counter is ready.
